Actually, health insurers can deny coverage at any time on certain types of policies. For example, a short-term plan is not ACA-compliant and can and will be denied if you have been treated for specific conditions, such as heart disease, cancer or diabetes. If your plan is grandfathered due to being in effect before that date, and if you are denied health insurance, you can switch to a Marketplace plan during open enrollment.
