Collision and comprehensive coverage's are physical damage coverage's purchased for your own vehicle.
Collision is just like it sounds. Your car is involved in a collision (crash, upset, rollover) then the collision coverage would pay for the damage to your vehicle minus your deductible. Comprehensive coverage is anything that is not collision. For example, flying or falling objects, vandalism, theft.
If you wish to fully protect your vehicle you would want to purchase both collision and comprehensive coverage However Comprehensive coverage can be purchased without collision coverage. Not the other way around.
