With regard to automobile insurance, there are two most common types of 'Adjusters'.
A major distinction is that one handles the various aspects of a particular claim, usually without ever seeing the vehicle in person, while the other type of Adjuster is responsible for actually looking at the vehicles or vehicles and assessing the damage amounts. The latter is often also referred to as an appraiser. But they are 'adjusting' the loss.
The former would typically assign the appraiser (outside adjuster) to look at the vehicles or vehicles. The outside adjuster might also view the accident site and determine a theory of liability and advise the 'inside adjuster'.
There are variations but these two types of 'adjusters' are most often encountered in claims situations.
