My wife and I have renters insurance in my wife’s maiden name. We updated the address but never updated her name on the policy. After an electrical fire caused by a lightning strike, we have filed a claim. How badly will the fact that the policy is in my wife’s maiden name affect our settlement, such as whether or not we get it?
Renters insurance is in wife’s maiden name. Will that affect the settlement?

Particularly if you were newly married. If it appears to the insurance company there was intent not to disclose the spouse for any reason as to avoid increased premium or non renewal then there could be a problem. But again, if it's just a honest overlook by your part I do not see that there would be any problem with the claim.Answered on June 6, 2013flag this answer
