Your renters insurance normally would not provide any coverage for your auto. Auto insurance is the best way to cover your auto. Renters insurance typically works the same way as homeowners insurance in that it extends some coverage for personal property away from your home. Please read your policy completely to understand what coverage is provided and what exclusions there may be or contact your local agent to have them go over the poilicy with you.

Physical damage to your auto, if it is licensed for the road, is specifically excluded from coverage under the HO-4 Renters Insurance policy. Physical damage to your auto is covered only by your auto insurance policy if you have opted to include Comprehensive and/or Collision coverage. I suggest you work with a competent agent who understands the needs of renters and can design a tailor made policy that includes the coverage you need and at a price you can afford.
