Does Homeowners Insurance Cover Injuries At Home?
- 12689 POINTSview profileTed RatliffOwner, SFS Associates,Homeowners medical pay will cover minor injuries for those visiting your home. This is designed to prevent law suit. It will not cover you or members of your household however. Homeowners is not designed as an accident policy or health insurance. The premium would have to be way too high.Answered on May 31, 2013flag this answer

There are two sections to the homeowners insurance policy. Section I is the property section and covers Dwelling, other structures, personal property & loss of use coverage. Section II of a homeowners insurance policy covers liability- namely Personal Liability & Medical Payments. The medical payments section is designed to cover injuries that are not the policy owns fault. I usually use an example.. so here it is, "if you are over my house on Thanksgiving and you are cutting my turkey with my knife and you cut yourself coverage can be afforded under the policy." In this case there was no negligence on my part but you did sustain injuries. We assuming there was nothing wrong with the floor to cause you to slip and the knife was functioning correctly. Keep in mind that every policy is different and I suggest you check with your local independent agent for coverage information that is specific to your policy. Hope this helps.Answered on September 15, 2015flag this answer
