Typically, there is not a waiting period for renter's insurance. Rates tend to be very inexpensive and often you can request an effective date for the day of application or shortly thereafter.

A renter's policy will cover your personal contents along with many other items. Liability and medical pay (to others) is included.

There isn’t a waiting period for a renter’s policy from most insurance companies.  When the agent writes the policy and submits it to the company there is a period of time in which the company may decide to not accept the risk.  If that happens they will notify the customer and give them a future date at which time the coverage will cease, but coverage remains in force from the inception date until the date of cancellation.
