- 16470 POINTSview profileDavid OsgoodAgent, Rural Mutual Insurance Co., Union Grove, WIIt may if you have an equipment breakdown rider on the policy. Your renters policy provides coverage for your personal property in the event of a covered loss and liability protection in case of an accident occurring in your residence that you are deemed responsible for. Always remember every policy is different. Read your policy completely to know what is covered and what is excluded or contact your local agent to have them go over the policy with you.Answered on May 14, 2013flag this answer

In other words renters insurance will not cover a broken anything if it's mechanical in nature. For a claim to be covered the incident first will need to fall under sudden and accidental. Then the incident will also have to fall under the perils of the policy of which mechanical breakdown is not one of them.Answered on September 18, 2013flag this answer
