   I assume you are referring to a claim investigation. This can very widely  The goal of the insurance carrier is to investigate and come to a determination as quickly as possible but here are factors that can slow down the process. Getting a police report. Police reports can take 10 and up to 30 days to obtain. There really is no way to speed this up as the insurance carrier is at the mercy of the policy department. Contacting the other party for a statement. Many times the other party involved in the claim can be unresponsive further slowing down the process. Were there witnesses who need to be interviewed. These are again details that can slow the process down. There are simple claims that can resolved quickly with out all these other steps but for the more complicated claims, He said She said, further investigation takes place and you can be looking at 60 days in some cases. All this is merely for determining fault. Keep in mind if you have collision coverage on your vehicle a claim investigation will not hinder getting your car repaired. You just have to meet your deductible. This is always good to talk to your local agent about this process as the agent can better handle explaining the process then the claims adjusters.
