Can Auto Insurance Be Backdated?

If you already have an auto policy and you purchase a new car (for most policies) you have coverage, even if your agency is closed. Let's say you buy the car on Friday night and can't call your agent untill Monday morning. He/She adds your car on essentially backdating the policy to Friday. Even if you have an accident over the weekend, you would be covered. Please check with your carrier as not all carriers do this.Answered on May 9, 2013flag this answer

This would be extenuating circumstances. In other words you can not go to an agent and ask to have a policy written two days back for example.Answered on May 9, 2013flag this answer
