   If you do not have your own insurance policy to protect you when you rent a car you do have the option to purchase the insurance provided by the rental car company. You must have one or the other as any rental car company will not let you take their vehicle on the road without insurance. Keep in mind the insurance provided by the rental car companies are generally state minimum coverage's.
