Republicans are overwhelmingly in favor of protecting Medicare and ensuring it is available for many additional generations. And Democrats feel the same way.

Republicans seem more willing to accept the belief that Medicare needs to be tweaked in order to maintain continuous and effective coverage in the future. Their view on Medicare Advantage plans also seems to be different than many of their counterparts.

But in fairness, both parties seem committed to saving Medicare benefits for everyone's future. Their methods are a bit different, but there is still plenty of common ground that should allow both parties to effectively work together.

Where in the world did the questioner get this idea?  Any cursory check of the historical voting record of Republicans in Congress will demonstrate that they have been very supportive of this program.  Let's see, who came up with the Medicare Part D prescription drug program?  Oh, yes, President George Bush, not exactly known for being a Democratic party member now was he?

What many Republicans have been pointing out and trying to address is the fact that the Medicare program as it is currently constituted is financially unsustainable and that changes are needed to assure the program is there for the wave of retirees who will be moving onto Medicare in the years ahead.

It is the democrat party that responds to any attempts to address the problem with hysteria and demagoguery (the commercial of a Paul Ryan look alike pushing an elderly lady in a wheel chair over a cliff is a recent example).  The questioner should also be aware that ObamaCare will transfer $700 billion over the next decade in what would have been increased spending for Medicare to help fund the Affordable Care Act's provisions for those under age 65.  Perhaps you should ask why are the democrats wanting to harm Medicare?
