What Does Medicare Cover For Assisted Living?
- 12689 POINTSview profileTed RatliffOwner, SFS Associates,Medicare does not cover Assisted Living at all. Medicare is very limited on its long term care benefits. You can only get assistance if you are hospitalized for three days, not counting day of discharge, and require skilled care. You can only stay in a nursing home for a maximum of 100 days. the first 20 days are covered in full as long as you meet the requirements, day 21 through 100 you will have a copay. You may also quaify from limited rehab services in your home. If you need assisted living you may qualify for certain veterens benefits if you or your spouse served in the military during a period of war. Your only other option is Medicaid. If you have assets see a good elder law attorney or Medicaid planner. It could save you a large portion of your assets and allow you to get help faster.Answered on May 4, 2013flag this answer
