    The Medicare donut hole is a cost saving measure used by insurance carriers to lower your Part D premiums. It is essentially a corridor deductible that follows the initial cost sharing where you pay a portion of the cost of your drugs and your Part D plan pays the balance.

    Medigap plans do not cover the donut hole in Part D.
