   Car insurance always follows the vehicle so the owner's policy would be primary however you're car insurance may come into play if the limits on owner's policy are reached. For example, the owner's policy provides coverage up to $100,000 per person and the person you hit has medical bills of $250,000. The owner's policy would pay $100,000 and then your car insurance would kick in and pay the difference up to your limit. If you don't have enough coverage to pay the full medical bill the rest of the money comes directly from you. This is why it is very important to talk to an independent agent and make sure you have the proper coverage.
