If you apply for Medigap coverage during your initial enrollment period (usually at age 65) you cannot be denied coverage.
Also, there are specified guaranteed issue situations where a carrier cannot deny your application. These situations include losing an Advantage plan, losing your employer group health insurance plan (past age 65) or if your current Medigap carrier exits the market or goes bankrupt.
Outside of specified guaranteed issue situations, you can buy a Medigap plan at any time subject to medical underwriting.
