Most seniors on Medicare do need a Medigap insurance policy. When you consider that Medicare Part A and Part B have deductibles, coinsurance and copay's that you are responsible for, buying a good Medigap plan is a wise choice.

Medicare only covers about 80% of your hospital, doctor and outpatient expenses. You are responsible for the rest. That can amount to several thousand dollars each year in out of pocket expenses that YOU must pay if you don't have a Medigap insurance plan.

Do you need Medigap insurance or a "Medicare Supplement" plan as it is often referred to?

There really is not a right or wrong answer. As previously stated, 20% of your expenses may potentially not be covered. However, when you factor in the premium you pay for a Medigap plan, it is possible that you could pay more dollars in premiums than you receive from the policy.

Conversely, you may also pay (as an example), $1200 per year in premiums and save $4800 in out of pocket expenses. Not a bad rate of return!

By reviewing your options with a reputable experienced broker, and/or a reputable website, you'll be provided unbiased information to make an informed decision.
