Assuming you have a standard HO3 policy form the easy answer is yes -- roofs are a covered structure. However you also have to look at why the roof is damaged. If it is general wear/tear or age then that is generally excluded. If it is from a covered peril (fire, lightening, hail, etc.) then it is safe to say it should be covered.
As always you should always consult your agent that can review your policy.

The roof is an integral part of the residence. It is fully covered for the perils listed in the policy. The basis for settling the claim, however, might differ from other parts of the residence. Many insurers adjust a roof claim on the basis of its actual cash value. The roof deteriorates much more quickly than the rest of the building so when the claim is often adjusted it is based on the condition of the roof at the time of the claim, not the cost to replace it.
