Some companies offer an accident forgiveness benefit and if yours is one of those, then opening a claim will not have any affect on your renewal premium. Some companies offer this as a benefit to long term policyholders while others make it available for purchase as an option.

    Whenever your company pays a claim the underwriter considers that claim in the renewal process. There are two considerations of your claims record, frequency and severity. While it is doubtful that you can do much about the severity of claims you can reduce frequency and save money. Simply raise the deductibles on comprehensive and collision to the maximum allowed.
