Renters Insurance will take effect immediately however if there is damage or you need to file a claim from an event which occurred BEFORE the policy went into effect, you will not be covered.

Be sure to ask those specific questions from your agent so you know "all the small print" and rules on what constitutes a claim.

So long as your Insurance Professional or direct provider has binding authority granted to them by the Insurance Carrier, coverage can begin immediately upon signing the application and paying the necessary premium deposit. If in addition to the blanket coverage you discussed you may need extended coverage for valuable items, this coverage may also by bound upon receipt of an appraisal.
