Ultrasounds are covered under Medicare. If they're completed as an inpatient in a hospital, it would be covered by Part A. If they're completed on an outpatient basis, it would be covered under Part B. Please note, the ultrasound must be deemed medically necessary to help diagnose a medical problem by your physician.

Medicare typically pays for about 80% of the expenses - you would be responsible for paying the other 20%. A Medicare supplement policy can help pay the remaining 20%.

I hope the information is helpful - please feel free to contact me for assistance with your coverage and if you have any other questions. Thanks very much.

An Ultrasound will be covered under Medicare Part B. Diagnostic tests that are done on an outpatient basis are subject to the Medicare Part B deductible of $166. After the deductible is met Medicare will cover 80% of an ultrasound or any diagnostic test ordered by your doctor. You are responsible for the other 20% if you don't have a Medicare Supplement.

Yes, when you are under out-patient it is billed under your Part B under "Diagnostics". If you are hospitalized then it is covered under your Part A. Medicare Advantage Plans have to cover them because they must follow the rules of Medicare. Whether you are in an Advantage Plan or have Original Medicare as your Primary you must make sure that your physician has ordered lower costs tests prior to order more expensive tests. Both the Advantage Plans and Medicare like to see the rabbit trail of least cost to higher costs.
