You can use a new health insurance plan on and after the effective date of the coverage. For example, if you have a July 1, 2014 effective date, you can use your new coverage beginning on July 1, 2014 and each day thereafter as long as the policy is in force. If you have purchased a policy with a future effective date and are still covered under an old plan, that policy would be providing your coverage until you reach the effective date of the new plan (and assuming you are terminating the other plan).

I hope the information is helpful - please feel free to contact me for help and if you have any other questions. Thanks very much.
