If you are on your parents' health insurance plan you can stay on that plan until you turn 26 under the Affordable Care Act. Prior to turning 26 you will receive notification from your health plan that you will be terminated when you turn 26.
When you turn 26 you will have three options:
If your parent's plan is an employer sponsored group plan you will be offered COBRA. This would be the same plan you currently have with an administrative fee attached of 2% if the employer has more than 20 employees and up to 10% if the employer has under20 employees.
If you are on an indivdual/family plan you will be offered a choice of plans from your exisitng health insurance plan.
Your third choice is to find your own health insurance plan with the carriers offering individual plans in your state.
