That is a great question! The short answer is that you can not drive at all legally without auto insurance. The penalties for doing so are very stiff, and have long lasting effects. It is much better to have a minimal policy than none. Please contact an agent that can help you find a policy that you can afford. If you would like some help, please feel free to contact me, I'm happy to help. Thank you for asking!

Not very long actually especially if coverage is required by your state or if you have a car loan.  Both requirements include provisions that require your insurance company to notify such parties in the event you cancel your coverage.  The loan company can then potentially reposes your car and the state will fine you and suspend the car's registration making it illegal to drive.

It is never wise to drive a car that is not insured.  The period of time you can drive without insurance is governed by state law.  Additionally, it is also governed by common sense.  The risks of operating a car are far too great for most people to afford. A single accident could bankrupt you.  If you cannot afford insurance take public transportation.
