   Going on Medicare is not based on a specific year, it's based around your age and/or medical status. The most common way people become eligible for Medicare is by turning 65. Some people may be able to enroll in Medicare before age 65 if they meet certain conditions such as receiving social security disability benefits for 24 continuous months or having ESRD (end-stage renal disease).
