How Much Is Renters Insurance Normally?
- 21750 POINTSview profileJim WinklerCEO/Owner, Winkler Financial Group, Houston, TexasGreat question! The answer is kind of iffy though, as the average where you live may not be the average where I live. A good portion of the cost is based upon the area where you live, and the risks associated with it. I am prone to hurricanes in Houston, you may not be where you live. We also have more issues with flooding than you may have. Folks in California may have a higher fire threat. The cost will also vary with the choice for deductible amount, and amount of things to be insured. The best guess I can give you is that you should be able to insure your things for around $20 a month. ( And that is strictly a budgeting estimate, not a quote!) If you need more details, please feel free to contact me, okay? Thanks for asking!Answered on May 6, 2014flag this answer

If you are renting n efficiency or some other smaller apartment, then the amount of personal property you may need to protect is far less than if you were renting a 3000 square foot home. In addition to the amount of coverage, the location of the rented property can be a factor in determining premium. If you are in a fairly remote area that is difficult for fire services to get to, then you may pay more than you would for the same coverage in a property located across the street from a fire hydrant and within a mile or two from a responding Fire and Rescue department.Answered on May 6, 2014flag this answer

McNeil Insurance Services, Fresno, CaliforniaWhile it is important to determine the cost of a renter’s policy, it is more important to consider the cost of not having a renter’s policy. Can you afford to replace all of your clothing, appliances, and furniture if they are lost in a fire or other covered “peril?” Can you defend yourself in a lawsuit if someone is hurt at the unit you are renting? The cost may be $10-25 per month which is insignificant compared to the terrible cost of having an uninsured loss.Answered on May 7, 2014flag this answer
