How To Switch Auto Insurance Policies?

    Switching auto policies is generally a painless operation.  Make sure that the new company is going to issue a policy that is exactly what you want.  If that is true, then notify your current company and ask that the existing policy be cancelled at the same time and date as the new one starts.  Send along a copy of the declaration sheet of the new policy to satisfy the old company that you are leaving.  Most cancellations are handled on a pro-rata basis.  That means that you will be charged for the number of days that the policy was in force.  There could be a charge for early cancellation.
