The rating structure for auto insurance varies by state.  In California, for example, it doesn’t matter whether the driver is male or female.  What does matter is the length of time that the driver has been licensed.  You can find out the specific rating scheme in your state by contacting a licensed agent or by contacting the insurance commissioner directly.

In states like Connecticut where female drivers with less experience behind the wheel tend to pay less than their male counterparts, for the most part, you will see your rates start to drop even lower once you reach the age of 25 or so.  Young women or men should always ask their insurance professional about any discounts that may be available.
