Is Toilet Overflow Covered By Homeowners Insurance?
- 37376 POINTSview profileDavid G. Pipes, CLU®, RICP®Business Development Officer, T.D. McNeil Insurance Services, Fresno, CaliforniaWater back-up is generally excluded in a homeowner’s policy. Most companies, however, offer their customers the privilege of buying that particular coverage at a small increase in premium. This is a neglected coverage and should be taken by all homeowners. The damage from a backed up sink, or toilet can be significant.Answered on March 31, 2014flag this answer

Again talk to your Insurance Professional about your policy. For those of us on a septic system, it is very important to regulary see to the care and maintenance of that system. If the water backs up because your system has been neglected then that is a maintenace issue and more than likely there would be no coverage under your policy terms and conditions.Answered on January 26, 2016flag this answer
