How To Drive A New Car Home Without Insurance?
- 0 POINTSview profileBen WiedenmanCSR/Producer, David Schuppler & Associates, Milwaukee, WisconsinDON'T drive a new car home without insurance! Always make sure you have active insurance before driving your car, especially a new car. If you lease or get a loan on a car the finance department usually will not let your drive off of the lot without proof of insurance. It depends on the state, but to my knowledge most states allow at least two weeks from the purchase of a new car for you to call your agent or carrier and update your vehicle information. During those two weeks the new vehicle (or newly purchased used vehicle) is typically considered covered. However, always update your vehicles with your agent or carrier asap!Answered on March 28, 2014flag this answer

If you have a policy in place that covers physical damage you should be automatically covered long enough to call your agent and notify them of the new vehicle. Otherwise you are driving uninsured which is not only breaking the law but risking a potential cost you can not pay. A dealership if they are doing their job will not let you off the lot without first verifying you have an insurance policy in place.Answered on March 30, 2014flag this answer
