That varies considerably.  However, the cost of not having a homeowner’s policy is easier.  If you don’t have a homeowner’s policy, your mortgage company can buy one for you.  If you don’t have a policy and someone sues you because they hurt themselves on your property, you get to pay all the legal costs and perhaps the full amount of a judgment.  If you house burns down and you don’t have a policy you will only have memories, and perhaps and on-going mortgage.  The price of a homeowner’s policy has many variables and you should discuss it with an agent that you trust.
