If you are overweight, you can easily qualify for quality health insurance coverage. Under the new Affordable Care Act guidelines, height/weight are no longer asked on qualified plans. Therefore, it will not impact your rate and you will not be surcharged or asked to meet a higher deductible through the Exchange.

Under the new Affordable Care Act, you cannot be declined by an insurance company for any pre-existing condition or other health-related reason. So, in short, health plans are guaranteed-issue now. Even if you're overweight, you can still get coverage on or off the health insurance exchanges. In general, the only ways your coverage can be cancelled, is if you elect to terminate the policy, you don't pay your premiums, or you falsified information on the application.

I highly recommend consulting with an independent agent/broker for assistance in finding the plan that's right for you. We can help you through the entire process from reviewing policies, to helping you apply, to getting your policy in force. Of course, if you have questions in the future or want to look into other types of insurance (e.g. life, disability, or long-term care), we can provide assistance in securing these insurance programs for you as well.
