Homeowners Insurance typically includes coverage for your actual home (the Dwelling Coverage), coverage for separate structures (such as detached garage or shed), coverage for your belongings (both the items inside your home, as well as items that may be outside of the home), liability protection (coverage that protects you if you are sued), and medical payment coverage (an amount that can paid to someone that is injured on your property).

These 5 items are usually included in any homeowners policy (renters and landlord policies have variations of these). However, some insurance companies also include some extras at no additional cost. For instance, Farmers Insurance includes an extended coverage of 125% of the dwelling coverage. This means that if the cost to rebuild the home exceeds the amount of dwelling coverage, Farmers Insurance will cover an extra 25% over and above the dwelling coverage.  Farmers Insurance also includes ID theft protection, and a few other extras.
