    Yes, you can have both Medicare and private health insurance. One of the forms of insurance coverage will be the primary payer, and one will be the secondary payer.     Yes, for example you can have Medicare and a Medicare Supplement plan to help cover what Medicare Part A & B does not cover.  Medicare Part A & B only covers about 80% of the costs so having a Medicare Supplement is important.  There are 11 different Medicare Supplement (Medigap Plans) to pick from and they have a letter to tell you which plan they are.

    An independent agent that specializes in Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap Plans) can really be a huge help in showing you the plans available to you.
