Is Disability Insurance A Medical Expense?
- 63333 POINTSview profilePeggy MaceMost of the U.S.No, Disability Insurance is not a medical expense, and is not deductible as such on income tax forms. While an agent must have a license in health insurance to sell disability insurance, the insurance is not considered a medical expense such as health insurance and long term care insurance.Answered on August 23, 2013flag this answer

You can ask your CPA whether the laws have changed, but likely not. I am not a CPA, so I can't tell you whether it is deductible in your case or not. If you are purchasing disability insurance for a tax write off, however, you are purchasing it for the wrong reasons.Answered on July 6, 2016flag this answer
