- 63333 POINTSview profilePeggy MaceMost of the U.S.Long Term Care insurance is needed when someone has assets to be protected, and when someone wants to make their own decisions about their care if they should need long term assistance for daily living. Without long term care insurance, the individual and their family are left to foot tremendous bills, if such care is needed. If assets run out and Medicaid is used, the choices for care are limited. Having long term care that will allow someone to spend the benefit as they wish protects assets and allows some independence even at a time of loss.Answered on August 3, 2013flag this answer
