Can You Get Medicare At 62?
- 63333 POINTSview profilePeggy MaceMost of the U.S.Medicare is not optional to start at age 62, as Social Security is. You can only get it at age 65 unless there is another reason for getting it before age 65. Those reasons are: having end stage renal disease, being on Social Security Disability for 24 months, or having Lou Gehrig's Disease.Answered on August 2, 2013flag this answer
- 2330 POINTSview profileSteve AdlmanOwner, Alabama Medicare Plans, Birmingham, AlabamaThe only people who get Medicare before the age of 65 are people who are receiving a Social Security disability check. Drawing a Social Security retirement check at age 62 does not qualify you for Medicare. If you retire at age 62 and need health insurance you will need to purchase an individual health insurance plan until you qualify for Medicare at age 65.Answered on May 16, 2016flag this answer
