You can usually get life insurance on a relative, but even with relatives, some insurable interest must exist. E.g. Nephew Mark cannot take out a policy on Great-Aunt Mary unless Mary has been living with Mark, if Mark has been contributing to her, if Mary loaned Mark some money, or some other reason that monetary award is justified.
