Medicare will pay for blood work that is done to diagnose or monitor a health condition. Unfortunately, Medicare does not pay for blood work done for preventative reasons or as part of an annual physical.
If the blood work is done in the hospital, Part A pays for the blood work. If the testing is done on an outpatient basis, the blood work is paid for by Part B.
Under Medicare Part B blood work is covered. Diagnostic and laboratory testing will be covered after you meet the Medicare Part B annual deductible of $166. After the deductible is met Medicare covers 80% for diagnostic and laboratory testing and if you have a Medicare Supplement it will pay the 20% Medicare leaves off.
