   A deductible for auto insurance typically only for collision and other than collision (comprehensive) coverages. When you have a claim on your collision or other than collision coverage your deductible is your portion of the claim amount. In other words your deductible is the amount of money that you will pay out of your pocket toward the total claim amount. If you have a five hundred dollar deductible and the claim is for one thousand dollars then the carrier will only pay five dollars of the claim amount.
