    By paying your Social Security taxes you are paying for the right to receive Social Security Disability (SSDI) benefits if you were to become disabled. The criteria for receiving Social Security benefits may be stricter than the criteria for a private Disability insurance policy, and the amount of benefit received is less than you can get with most individual Disability insurance policies.
