Good question! Since Obamacare was fully instituted many good companies have gone out of business or just quit offering health insurance. In my state, South Carolina, there are only two companies that offer ACA plans on the exchange and they are Blue Cross and Blue Choice. So, with that said, affordability comes no longer from competition but now lower premiums can only come from accepting higher deductibles or less benefits.

The first way to find low cost health insurance is by logging into your state health insurance exchange. You can choose between five plan designs. The catastrophic and bronze levels plans often have the lowest premium costs, but also have higher out-of-pocket costs if you utilize the plans.

Always start with your state exchange to take advantage of income based subsidies. You may qualify for assistance to pay your premiums, and cover more of your out-of-pocket expenses.

If you do not qualify for income based assistance you may find other options off the exchange. Speak with a licensed agent.
