Each state also provides state short term disability, and uses the same reimbursement rates, and the same infrastructure for collecting premiums and making claims payments. The qualifying criteria are different. 		<description><![CDATA[No.  Paid family leave is an employee benefit and one not offered by all employers.  It may be taken in conjunction with a disabling event but it is in no way disability insurance.  The Federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides certain employees with up to 12-weeks of UNPAID, job protected leave per year and it does require that group health benefits be maintained during such a leave.  The FMLA applies only in specific life circumstances and is applicable to all public agencies, public &#038; private elementary and secondary schools and companies with 50 or more employees.]]></description>
